  • Aggregators are why we have games in a 1 out 100 points margin.
  • At their release though? They were the best you can get. If you decide to re-review half the games on Meta top 20 without the nostalgia or with today's standard, it's hard to see them stay in their place. But when looking at reviews, it tend to be a snapshot of the year they released in.

  • Reviews are made at the time of release (because for most games, that's where they are the most relevant) and updating all of them regularly requires too much time and manpower to be possible.
  • there's stuff that is probably ranked in the high 70s to mid 80s that is, when you actually ask people (not look at a meaningless number someone randomly ascribed to it, based on nothing but convention), in the same tear and sometimes with even stronger footing than what's in those top 10 lists of aggregator sites. there's something about these lists where they're always dominated by AAA-tier stuff with a token indie darling (atm it's Hades which just swept the critics away that year) that just isn't representative of how good smaller, weirder games are that just aren't compatible with the broader review process and the resulting scores. what about all the other games that will never appear in a list like this but are also just absolutely stellar. It's not about the games on that list being undeserving or "not that good" or "something else was better". (I know you said you mostly agree anyway, I just got bit by something and had to rant for a bit lol) or should it get points deducted due to age and maybe a newer game doing something better? is that 79 game from 2016 now a 94? is that 97 now just a more 86 (look at how re-releases/remasters or whatever sometimes score lower because now the game is "old" and the hype is gone but the old one still sticks around on lists with its release score)

Even under 90 outer wilds is still a fantastic game:).Ĭlick to 's not about the games on that list being undeserving or "not that good" or "something else was better". It's very possible that one or more 2023's games will be your favorite ever but that will not be reflected in OC's scores for several reasons, and that's ok:). Vote and if you have the name of a single game you feel will be such critic darling to put 2023 inside top 5 share it. How confident are you that some of the 2023's already announced or not games will land into the OC's top 5 of all time, or the completely arbitrary top 10, 15 and 20?

Lastly the top 3 games of all time came to be 6/7 years ago, while the oldest resident is 2013's mario still hanging in top 15.Įntering top 20, a list guarded by the best VR game ever made is no small feat and we are just at the beginning of 2023 but. Prior to these the last game that entered OC's parnassus was 2021 FF XIV climbing to top 20.
